 Clemmer College of Education

(a)    During the 2005/6 academic year I continued to serve as a committee member of the College of Education's curriculum development committee. I participated in several meetings regarding curriculum proposals and redesigns

Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis

(b)   I served as Advisor to the Education Leadership Association (ELA) a student-led leadership association proposed ELPA Students. I provided advice and supervision and support for the groups annual community activities, workshops and leadership initiatives.

A list of the various initiatives hosted by ELA in the 2005/2006 academic year includes the following

 

a.       The International Cricket Match held at ETSU's  2005 homecoming

b.      A workshop on research methodologies (Quantitative and Qualitative)

c.       A workshop on  Seminar for Student  success   

d.      ELPA's annual orientation for new students

 

 

East Tennessee State University

 

(c) I served as a committee member/ rep college of education at the Graduate Council from August 2005- April 2006 of ETSU.  Specific functions include the facilitation of long range planning for graduate education at ETSU, recommendation of new programs and courses, evaluation of existing programs and courses and the facilitation of graduate accreditation.

 

(d) I participated in departmental recruiting activities for two new tenure track faculty positions for

the fall 2006 academic year. My involvement included participation in screening, interviewing and reference calls to the references of prospective candidates.

Other

(e)  I served as an elected officer/ directorate member of the Judicial Affairs Commission of the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) for the 2005-   2006 term. Directorate members are responsible for actively contributing to the operation and leadership of the Commission, representing the commission members to ACPA, providing resource information to colleagues on related judicial and legal issues and providing mediation and adjudication procedures that have evolved on campus to ACPA members and colleagues.

The purpose of Commission for Campus Judicial Affairs and Legal Issues is to promote an awareness of current judicial affairs and legal issues affecting students in Higher Education. The Commission endorses the development and implementation of judicial programs and services consistent with educational principles and human development theories.

This professional activity and membership is supportive of the notion of democratic leadership participation activities and service extended to outside/ external professional associations. This activity enhances collaboration and expands leadership participation and role-play of faculty not only to include campus activities but external national professional associations.
 

East Tennessee State University

(f) I served as a Faculty Ambassador for East Tennessee State University incoming International  students. Faculty ambassadors  for ETSU are responsible for

 

(g) As part of service to ETSU’s international education initiatives, I conducted orientation/ training workshops for international students hosted by the Office of International Programs at East Tennessee State University . The orientation workshops focused on providing skills and knowledge base for transition of international students into the ETSU campus.

 

(h) I participated as a panelist and key note speaker at ETSU’s 3rd annual conference for cross cultural leadership hosted by the Department of Housing and Residence Life.  The title of the key note speech was “Seeing with Hybrid Eyes: Developing the Art and Strategy of Cross-cultural and Global Leadership for the Twenty-first century.  The panel discussion covered issues related to international Perspectives of Leadership and was held at the East Tennessee Room. The moderator of the panel was Maria Costa, Director of ETSU’s International Programs Office. Panelists included: Dr. Theresa McGarry, Dr. Jasmine Renner and Dr. Yosif Elhindi.

Recruitment Activities: 

 Faculty: Chaired Search Committee for the recruitment of faculty postsecondary and private sector leadership concentration. Department of Education Leadership and Policy Analysis. January 2005- August 2005.

Served on search committees for the recruitment of Ed.D faculty for Principal Leadership and Administrative Endorsement (2004), and faculty in the Department of Human Development and Learning College of Education (2004-2005). 

Doctoral Students:  Was involved in recruitment activities (interviews, screening) of potential doctoral students and participated in the development and conduct of doctoral cohort programs for on- and off-campus cohorts. 

Currently chairing 26 doctoral committees. Currently serve on 23 other Ed.D doctoral committees.
