Enlisted for shorter terms - usually 90 days

Similar to militia but with longer terms of service
Irregulars
No formal organization
Usually for specific purpose
Often had own agenda

Hessian Soldiers
About 30,000 troops from Hesse-Cassel and 5 other German states
Loyalist Militia
About 50,000 - 60,000 Americans served in Loyalist units
Loyalist Provincial Troops
Militia units which were actually incorporated into the British military establishment
