Books on careers can be found through an online search of the Voyager catalog.  A  simple subject search can be performed using the subject terms “occupations,” “professions,” or “vocational guidance.”  Books on specific occupations can be located by doing a simple search using the profession with the subheading vocational guidance (eg. Nursing-vocational guidance).

Journal articles on occupations can be located using the InfoTrac OneFile database or the Business and Company Resource Center.  Other electronic databases might be helpful; for example, ERIC (Education) will have articles on teaching as a profession, or CINAHL (Nursing), on nursing.

The quality of information found on the internet varies considerably.  For help in evaluating web sites, you can visit the web site of our Extended Campus Librarian, Marie Jones at:  http://faculty.etsu.edu/jonesmf.
