PROFESSIONAL  EXPERIENCE

 

2001-Present             C. C. Sherrod Library - East Tennessee State University - Johnson City, TN                              
  Assistant Professor,  Library Instruction /Reference                     

                                     ·         Present lectures, as well as individual instruction, on the use of the library's databases and
            services.

                                     ·         Develop handouts explaining library resources and services as well as specialized handouts
            for individual classes.

                                     ·         Schedule library instruction classes for individual professors.

·         Provide service at the reference desk as scheduled.

·         Develop and maintain research guides for the Sherrod Library web site.

·         Help to evaluate collection adequacy as a part of academic program  accreditation and
     evaluation.

·         Help manage the Sherrod Library’s reference collection by ordering new and replacement
    copies of  reference works, weeding the collection, and evaluating new reference products
    and new formats for traditional reference sources.

·         Promote the library’s collection by helping to design special displays in the Sherrod Library
     lobby.

·         Act as the library liaison to the Communicative Disorders, Curriculum and Instruction, and
    Physics Departments.  Act as a liaison for faculty and students using the Juvenile/Textbook 
    Room.

·       1999-2000  Tutored 5th grade Title I students in English, Reading, and  Math.  Performed other
   duties as directed by the teachers. 

·       1997-1999   Assisted in all aspects of running the school library.  Helped students to identify
   and locate materials, updated online records and card catalog, circulated and shelved
   books, and read books to the younger children. 

 

1981-1993                 H. B. Stamps Memorial Library – Rogersville, TN
Director/County Coordinator

·       Created and maintained a budget, suggested policies, and trained personnel for the H. B.
  Stamps Memorial Library and three branch libraries.

·       Wrote and received two grants to develop a collections of low-level, high-interest reading
   materials for beginning adult readers and to add PBS programming through the John D.
  and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Library  Video Classics Project to the collections of
  Hawkins County’s four libraries.

·       Was responsible for supervising personnel and volunteers at the H. B. Stamps Memorial Library,
  developing and weeding the collection, instructing patrons in the use of the library’s
  materials,  answering  reference questions, processing interlibrary loan requests, and|
  promoting a positive image of the library and its services by writing a weekly column,
  conducting tours, visiting schools, and setting up programs.

                                             course open to undeclared freshmen.

2005                                    Coordinator for the American Heart Association's Red Dress Pin drive for East Tennessee
                                              State University.  The drive collected $310 for the AHA.

Fall 2005                             With Kathy Feagins, taught SOAA 1000 002.  Academic Advantage is a writing intensive
                                             course open to undeclared freshmen.

2004-2005                          Member.  Committee responsible for bringing "Changing the Face of Medicine" traveling
                                             exhibit to East Tennessee State University.

2004                                  Met with teachers from Greene County to discuss how they could implement information
                                           literacy strategies at their schools so that the students would be better prepared to

2003                                  Presented 5 story hours to children at the Rogersville City School using my knowledge of
                                           children's books and library skills to select books and other materials to develop individual
                                           programs for these classes.

2002                                   "Censorship and Libraries."  A PowerPoint presentation and talk given to a
                                            government class at Daniel Boone High School in Gray, Tennessee.
