LISE's SUMMER FUN 2002 ...

ETSU Journalism major Karen Pierce, right, and I traveled to Atlanta in July for a wedding party for former ETSU yearbook editor & J-major Steve Leasure. At the celebration, we ran into J-major Angelia Lewis who had driven in from Jonesborough! The glisten is from, yes, joy, but also temps in the mid-90s.

Karen Pierce, left, and I had to squeeze in an exciting visit to IHOP with my sister Janet and her son, Jay, and my buddy, Joel, before we left HotLanta.

Joel and I took a real "vacation" in early August for the first time in years. We traveled with sister Janet to Sarasota, Fla., where we stayed with my older sister, Jayne. Which way to the beach?

I never miss an aquarium, so we went to Mote Marine Aquarium in Sarasota and saw manatees (top right) and huge turtles, urchins and glow-in-the-dark jellyfish and an icky, very dead 35-foot squid.

Also, in July, my father, Jay "Pa" Cutshaw, turned 91 years old. He was born in the same year as ETSU was started, 1911. Dad said he didn't "feel like smiling" on this birthday. But, hey, we should all be so fortunate as to be around 90 years. Just think of the wrinkles I'll have THEN!

Finally, no visual memoir of my summer would be complete with a picture from my garden, where I spend my "sanity-saving time." And, look, Joel almost caught a butterfly!
