The ETSU Department of Engineering Technology, Surveying, and Digital Media, as part of a U.S. Department of Energy program, formed an Industrial Assessment Center in 2006. The center has performed more than 20 assessments for industrial centers in the surrounding area free of charge. The team of students and faculty perform a two day visit to the facility. The team then analyzes the measurements taken along with the processes particular to the plant. The team then writes a report for the client and logs the anonymous recommendations in the IAC database so that others can learn from the experience and affect energy savings elsewhere. The center trains students who then educate industries in the area in ways that they can reduce their utilities usage.

• The ETSU IAC’s recommendations have led to around 10 million kWh in real world energy reductions through client implementations.
