Chilhowie, Virginia

Dr. Wayne Gillespie was born in Abingdon, Virginia but grew up in a small town in Southwestern Virginia called Chilhowie. He attended Chilhowie Elementary School, Chilhowie Middle School, and Chilhowie High School.

Williamsburg, Virginia

Dr. Gillespie attended the College of William and Mary, graduating in May 1993 with a major in Philosophy and a minor in Biology. He spent a lot of time in the Wren Building (pictured above) when the Philosophy department was housed there.

Johnson City, Tennessee

After working for a few years, Dr. Gillespie decided to return to graduate school. He completed a Master of Arts degree in Criminology from East Tennessee State University.

Lexington, Kentucky

Dr. Gillespie earned his doctorate in Sociology from the University of Kentucky in 2001.
