VARIABLE STARS
(A Self-Paced Hands On Laboratory Course about the Study of Variable
Stars)
Students
begin with an independent study on the instrumentation to be used
and the background and
nature of the stars to be observed. Students then make approximately
weekly observations of variable
stars using the 14-inch Celestron Telescope at the Harry D. Powell
Observatory. The observations are
reduced and analyzed and submitted to the AAVSO to contribute to the
archive data and establish
light
curves for the stars.
