TEXTBOOK:
Robin Bade & Michael Parkin, Foundations of Microeconomics, 3rd
ed
Pearson Addison Wesley, 2007, with “MyEconLab
in CourseCompass”
(“a la carte” loose leaf edition)
This course requires you to enroll in MyEconLab (MEL) from Pearson Education. Pearson is the
parent firm of Addison Wesley, the textbook publisher. Our version of MEL is
included in CourseCompass which is a Blackboard based
system. If you purchase the textbook package from the ETSU bookstore, it will
include an access kit with the registration information. Or, if you purchase a
used textbook, you can enroll in MEL in CourseCompass
on the internet (have your credit card handy!).
You will need the
following information to enroll:
Course ID: hipple13775
ETSU Zip Code: 37614
1. To
enroll in MEL in CourseCompass, go to www.myeconlab.com. Note, this website is used for enrollment registration only, and after
you have registered, you will not use this website again.
2. In
the new user registration box, click “students”.
3. You
are now on page two, and follow the instructions.
1. Author/Title. Select
“Bade/Parkin”
Select “Foundations
of Microeconomics, 3e”
Be careful and do not pick “Macroeconomics” or” 2e”.
2. Access Kit. Click
the second icon.
If you do not have an access kit from the bookstore, then use
the “What are my options?” link. You can enroll on-line
with
your credit-card. Just follow instructions, and skip to #7
below.
3. Course ID. Click
“yes”.
If you clicked the wrong icon above, you will get an error message.
4. You are now on page
three.
Click “new user”.
Enter the Access Code from your Access Kit. Be careful!
The ETSU Zip Code is “37614”.
ETSU is in the “
Click “next”.
5. On page four, you will
register for our specific course.
Enter
our course ID which is “hipple13775”.
If you picked the wrong textbook on page two,
you will get an error message.
The course name in MEL should be “ECON2220-ITV 08SP”.
6. To finish registration,
you will have to provide an e-mail address, and pick a username and password for
your MEL account. If you pick a name that is already being used by another
student somewhere in the world, you will be prompted to pick a username that
has not been taken.
7. When you have finished
your registration, get completely out of the www.myeconlab.com
website.
8. Now, go to www.coursecompass.com. We want to see if
your registration has been successful and if your computer has the appropriate
software to run MEL in CourseCompass.
“Log
in” with your username and password and see if you go to our CourseCompass class webpage. If you are in the class
webpage, then all is well. If you are not, then there may be
problems! Contact me.
Click
the class link. You will be on a new page and you will be asked to run the
“Installation Wizard”. Run the wizard. It will check and see if your computer
has all of the “plug-ins” needed to run MEL (like Adobe, etc.). The Wizard will
also ask you to modify the Microsoft Explorer “Active X” settings to permit
“pop-ups” from the CourseCompass site. To do this,
you need to be the system operator. If it
is your personal computer, you are the system operator. If it is a lab machine,
you do not have the authority to modify the Active X settings. Most ETSU
computer lab machines are configured for MEL.
Once
the “Installation Wizard” installs without any problems, you will never need to
run this software again.
9. Final step, add www.coursecompass.com to your
Microsoft Internet Explorer “Favorites” list.
10. Besides
our MEL class webpage, you also need to add my regular internet website http://faculty.etsu.edu/hipples to
your Favorites list. We will also have a class webpage at this site.
