TEXTBOOK:

Robin Bade & Michael Parkin, Foundations of Macroeconomics, 4th ed

Pearson Addison Wesley, 2009, with “MyEconLab in CourseCompass

(“a la carte” loose leaf edition)

This course requires you to enroll in MyEconLab (MEL) from Pearson Education. Pearson is the parent firm of Addison Wesley, the textbook publisher. If you purchase the textbook package from the ETSU bookstore, it will include an access kit with the registration information. Or, if you purchase a used textbook, you can enroll in MEL in CourseCompass on the internet (have your credit card handy!).

You will need the following information to enroll:

            Course ID: hipple63694

            ETSU Zip Code: 37614

1. To enroll in “MEL in CourseCompass”, go to www.coursecompass.com.  This will put you on the CourseCompass homepage.

2. On the upper right, under Students, click “register”.

3. You are now on page two which lists the information you will need to register.  Click “Next”.

4. Enter the Course ID from above, and click “Find Course”.

5. The page should return with the CourseName “ECON2210-051 09SU”.

6. If you have purchased a new textbook package with an access kit, click “Access Code” and follow instructions.  Be very careful when you enter your access code.

7. If you have purchased a used textbook, click “Buy Now” and have your credit card ready.  Pick the cheapest option for MEL in CourseCompass.

8. To finish registration, you will have to provide an e-mail address, and pick a username and password for your MEL account.  If you pick a name that is already being used by another student somewhere in the world, you will be prompted to pick a username that has not been taken.

9. When you have finished your registration, get completely out of the www.coursecompass.com website.

10. Now, re-enter www.coursecompass.com.  We want to see if your registration has been successful and if your computer has the appropriate software to run MEL in CourseCompass.

“Log in” with your username and password and you will go to your personal MEL homepage.  Our class should appear as a link.  Click the link.  If you are in our class webpage, then all is well.  If you are not, then there may be problems!  Contact me.

On our class webpage, you will be asked to run the “Installation Wizard”.  Run the wizard.  It will check and see if your computer has all of the “plug-ins” needed to run MEL (like Adobe, etc.).  The Wizard will also ask you to modify the Microsoft Explorer “Active X” settings to permit “pop-ups” from the CourseCompass site.  To do this, you need to be the system operator.  If it is your personal computer, you are the system operator.  If it is a lab machine, you do not have the authority to modify the Active X settings.  Most ETSU computer lab machines are configured for MEL.

Once the “Installation Wizard” installs without any problems, you will not have to run this software again.

11. Final step, add www.coursecompass.com to your Microsoft Internet Explorer “Favorites” list.

12. Besides our MEL class webpage, you also need to add my regular internet website http://faculty.etsu.edu/hipples to your Favorites list.  We will also have a class webpage at this site.
