With less than a quarter-mile to go, with a last burst of speed the lead rider has just overtaken the two behind.  As the crowds rushed to the hills overlooking the finish line, this bold young rider claimed a stirring victory.  As if a 19-mile cross-country race were not grueling enough, this final stretch to the finish was all uphill.  Red-flagged jeeps are driven alongside the horses by local officials.
