Ölgii, the capital of Bayan Ölgii aimag spreads in a valley below me to the northwest, while behind me and below me on the southern slopes, the outdoor Nadaam festival is taking place.  This, the largest settlement in a comparatively large Mongolian aimag (province), has less than 30,000 inhabitants.  Nevertheless, Ölgii is one of Mongolia's 5 or 6 largest towns.
