Research Interests:
My research interests focus on the intersection of computer systems and business operations. I am interested in both studying the computer systems themselves and their strategic, practical, and cultural role in an organization. From a Human Computer Interaction perspective this would involve issues such as organizational adoption of technology, implementation and deployment plans, and employee reactions to and involvement with systems.
I am particularly interested in enterprise and e-Business systems, and studying how the typical businesses can improve their use of technology to implement best practices. To that end, research-to-date has focused on studying contemporary and historic "manual" business practices for insights on new directions to take electronic systems.
Some particular topics of interest would include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Use of SAP in company operations, particularly SAP ERP, NetWeaver, ABAP, and related technologies
- Use of technology as a source of competitive advantage in business
- e-Commerce and e-Business
- Supply chain systems, especially those involving EDI
- Building web-supportive information handling processes into organizational systems
- ERP systems and other organizational strategic information systems
- HCI and Usability issues in business applications, esp. in the online environment
- How technology deployment affects people, and how this can be managed
- Internet culture: societal and individual implications from technology
- The "why" behind organizational technology usage
