This is an optical red image (I
band = 9000 Angstroms) of
the merging galaxy NGC 520 (Arp 157;
IRAS 01219+0331).
This image was obtained using the
82 inch telescope on
Kitt Peak,
Arizona, as part of my Ph.D.
