This is an optical red image (I band = 9000 Angstroms) of the interacting galaxy pair IRAS 03119+1448. This object was discovered by the IRAS Satellite and is at a distance of approximately 300 Megaparsecs. The two galaxies are separated by 12 arcseconds. This image was obtained using the 82 inch telescope on Kitt Peak, Arizona, as part of my Ph.D. Thesis at the University of Massachusetts.
