This is an optical red image (I
band = 9000 Angstroms) of
the interacting galaxy pair
IRAS 03119+1448.
This object was discovered by
the
IRAS Satellite
and is at a distance of approximately
300 Megaparsecs.
The two galaxies are separated
by 12 arcseconds.
This image was obtained using the
82 inch telescope on
Kitt Peak,
Arizona, as part of my Ph.D.
Thesis
at the
University of
Massachusetts.
