The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is the
nation's largest professional organization for human resource managers.
There are over 150,000 members worldwide.
Chapter Facts:
- ETSU's student SHRM chapter is sponsored by the Northeast
Tennessee Professional Chapter of SHRM.
- ETSU's chapter has won six consecutive Superior Merit
Awards from the National Organization making it one of the top student
chapters in the nation.
- ETSU's chapter was ranked number one in the nation in
1999-2000.

Each year, our chapter organizes meeting for
the professional chapter, takes plant tours, hosts workshops and seminars on
campus, and tries to have a little fun.
Membership Information:

Membership dues are $55.00 annually for both
student chapter membership and national membership.

Membership forms are available at our
meetings, at my office (120 Sam Wilson Hall), or in the pamphlet rack by the
Sam Wilson elevator on the second floor.

There is no GPA requirement or requirement
that you be an HR major...only that you are interested in our activities.

There is no requirement that you attend
activities, although attendance has many benefits.

You will receive the SHRM monthly magazine
which contains valuable information. It is the primary source for HR
professionals.

You will have access to the SHRM national
website, www.shrm.org, which contains lots
of helpful information including a literature search function that comes in
handy when researching and writing papers for classes.

You can get discounted rates at conferences,
workshops, and seminars. Sometimes they're even free to student
members!

You can take the Human Resource Certification
Institute Exam (which is much like the CPA exam for accounting majors) at a
discounted rate. This certification is very helpful in finding a job
especially if you have little experience.

You are invited to attend the Northeast
Tennessee SHRM professional chapter's monthly meetings which can provide
valuable networking opportunities.

You are invited to attend several plant tours
through the year. Past tours have include AFG glass, Eastman, ADmat,
Siemens, and Plusmark. These tours give students real world examples
of topics discussed in classes.
