Books Available for Review in TL


The Tennessee Libraries book review section provides evaluative reviews for current publications related to all aspects of Tennessee. If you are interested in reviewing any of the available titles, or would like to suggest additional titles for review, please contact the editor:

Once you request a title and it is still available, the editor will ask for your mailing address and send a copy of the book for you to review. Reviewers who fail to submit a review will not be sent subsequent books; they will be billed for the cost to replace the book or asked to return it. The review copy of the book is yours to keep for personal use or donate to your library.

Reviews must be between 300 to 500 words in length, conform to APA style, and should comment on the following elements as appropriate:

 

Scope - describe the overall content and purpose of the book
Authorship - credentials, affiliations, point of view
Accuracy - authoritative nature of the information
Arrangement - unique features, index, appendices
Readership - describe the intended audience
Critical evaluation - limitations and/or contribution to the field
Recommendation - which types of libraries should purchase

Reviews must be submitted in electronic format either on disk or via e-mail. The editor reserves the right to edit for length, as well as for consistency in language and style.  Reading and taking into consideration the Seven Deadly Words of Book Reviewing may assist in writing your review. Please include your name, position title, and institutional affiliation at the end of the review.


Special guidelines apply for review of cookbooks and reference works. Please contact the editor for more information.

 

Upon requesting a title, you will be asked to submit your review before one of the following deadline dates.

Dec. 10
March 10
June 10
Sept. 10

Every effort will be made for timely publication of your review, however it may take 6-9 months or more for it to appear.

Your willingness to contribute to the Tennessee Libraries is greatly appreciated.
