Fit Kids Health Fairs 2006-2007

This year Fit Kids hosted two Health Fairs at Little Milligan and University Schools.  Both of the Health Fairs were a success.  We had the opportunity to educate over 500 students in just two days with these fairs.  Fit Kids was also involved in the Unicoi Elementary Health Fair.  Although we did not organize this Health Fair, we were present with booths to help teach the children about health and fitness.

The Little Milligan Health Fair was held November 1, 2006 at Little Milligan School.  The fair lasted all day and involved Pre-K through 8th grade.  Community volunteers set up booths to help educate the students in their area of expertise.  There was a total of 12 booths set-up for viewing.  The children walked from booth to booth gathering information and listening to what the experts had to say about staying healthy, fit, and safe in our community.  Fit Kids was able to offer a free lunch, provided by Subway, to all of the volunteers.  At the end of the day, all of the students piled into the gym for the prize giveaways.  Everyone had been entered into the drawing, and we gave over 50 prizes that the Fit Kids staff had gotten donated by local businesses.  The grand prize was a bike and helmet, which went to a 4th grade boy.

The University Health Fair was held March 30, 2007 at University School on ETSU’s campus.  Again the fair lasted all day and involved Kindergarten through 8th grade.  This fair also had great community support, with over 15 booths being set up for display.  This fair was a little different than the other because we were not allowed to have prize giveaways, per school policy.  Fit Kids instead raised money to have T-shirts printed up for each child.  These shirts promoted the Fit Kids Program, as well as, Mountain States Health Alliance (Fit Kids main sponsor).
