Dr. Ugur Yavas, Professor of Marketing

Dr. Yavas holds a BA from Robert College (Istanbul, Turkey), an MBA from the Florida State University, an MBA and Ph.D. from Georgia State Univer­sity. He previously taught at the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (Dhahran, Saudi Arabia), Ball State University and Bogazici University (Istanbul, Turkey).

A member of Phi Kappa Phi, Beta Gamma Sigma and Golden Key Scholastic Honorary organizations, Dr. Yavas is the recipient of the 1980 Southwestern Marketing Association Outstanding Paper Award, 1980 International Congress on Applied Systems Research and Cybernetics Meritorious Paper Award, 1983 and 1989 Academy of Marketing Science Outstanding Paper Award, 1985 and 1987 University of Petroleum and Minerals Distinguished Researcher Award, 1988 Systems Research Foundation Outstanding Scholarly Contribution Award, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1995 and 2001 East Tennessee State University Faculty Excellence Award for Research, 1992 Atlantic Marketing Association Best Paper Award, 1993 East Tennessee State University Faculty Excellence Award for Service, 1993 East Tennessee State University Foundation Research Award and 2000 Western Decision Sciences Institute Best Paper Award. In 1991 he was a Presidential Winterim Fellow at the American Graduate School of International Management.

He has undertaken research in Germany under the sponsorship of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (O.E.C.D.) and has given seminars/presentations in universities in Finland, Germany, Turkey, New Zealand, Holland and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.  Yavas, a past Governor of the Academy of Marketing Science, served as Association for Consumer Research National Representa­tive and National Coordinator for the European Marketing Academy.  Dr. Yavas was track chair or organizer for the conferences of such professional associations as the Academy of Marketing Science, Association for Global Business, Academy of Business Administration and Southeastern and Southwestern divisions of the Academy of International Business. He is listed in International Businessmen's Who's Who, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in America, Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America, Who's Who in Advertising, Dictionary of International Biography, International Directory of Business and Management Scholars and Research and Men of Achievement.  Dr. Yavas who is currently the Editor of the Journal of Asia-Pacific Business was an Associate Editor of the International Marketing Review. He served on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Services Marketing, Journal of International Marketing, Advances in International Marketing, Journal of Hospital Marketing, Health Marketing Quarterly, Journal of Professional Services Marketing, Journal of Customer Service in Marketing and Management and Journal of Marketing (abstracts section). At the present, Dr. Yavas serves on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Consumer Marketing, Journal of Hospital Marketing and Public Relations, Scientific Journal of Administrative Development, EMU Journal of Tourism Research, International Journal of Bank Marketing, Journal of Product and Brand Management, Journal of Global Business, Services Marketing Quarterly, Journal of International Selling and Sales Management and Journal of International Marketing and Marketing Research

Dr. Yavas ranks seventh in adjusted appearances and ties for top rank in unadjusted appearances among authors who published in the Management International Review (No. 3 1992). Dr. Yavas also ties for third rank among authors with the highest number of international business articles and research notes in the same journal for the 1979–1998 period (Management International Review No. 2 1999). He ranks fifth among 1795 authors in number of papers in Developments in Marketing Science (Index, Academy of Marketing Science, 1994). His article published in the Journal of Marketing Channels is designated as one of the 100 Classic Marketing Articles (The Haworth Press, Inc.).  In an article entitled, "The International Marketing Literature: Topics, Trends and Contributors," (Journal of Teaching in International Business No. 3 1997), Yavas is cited as one of the noteworthy contributors to the International Marketing literature.
