OBJECTIVE:
Theater Laboratory offers opportunities for the student to gain credit
for practical experience in theatrical production.
REQUIREMENTS:
Students have the option of
fulfilling credit requirements in one of two ways:
by working pre-production building scenery, props and costumes and
installing light and sound plots or by working as part of the running crew
during technical rehearsals and performances.
Students are expected to access the online
Desire 2 Learn course site regularly for updates, assignments, and quizzes.
The address for D2L access is:
http://elearn.etsu.edu/.
If you need further assistance the student help desk can be reached by phone at
439-5648, 3-4648, or by e-mail at
shdesk@imail.etsu.edu.
CHOOSE
ONE OF THE FOLLOWING TWO OPTIONS:
OPTION 1:
·
Construction
crews are required to work four hours a
week throughout the semester on all ETSU Theater productions and projects
during the scheduled section meeting.
·
If you are
interested in a specific area of production (sets, lights, costumes, props, or
sound) please let us know and every effort will be made to assign you the
appropriate projects.
·
There is a time
sheet attached to the syllabus.
Make sure you sign-in each time you work.
You are responsible for tracking your hours.
The time sheet is to be turned in on the last day of lab (no later than
Friday, April 29th).
·
The Costume and
Scene Shop hours are: 1:00pm – 5:00pm Monday through Thursday and 10:00am –
5:00pm Saturdays. If you need to
change or vary your schedule please let Melissa and Karen know as soon as
possible.
·
Attendance to
load-ins and strikes for all productions is also required.
The dates are as follows:
SA
2/5
LOAD-IN for A Midsummer Night’s
Dream BF Theatre @
10:00am
SU
2/27 STRIKE
for A Midsummer Night’s Dream
BF Theatre @ 4:00pm
Clothing Requirements:
·
Work clothes are
required. Your clothes will get
spattered with paint and snagged on nails, so please wear appropriate clothing
to each lab.
·
Sandals, pumps
and clogs are not allowed. Please
wear closed-toed shoes or boots.
·
Long hair should
be tied back and jewelry should not be worn.
·
The TD reserves
the right to send students away if they are not properly attired and it will
count as an unexcused absence.
OPTION 2:
·
Students who opt
for running crew duties must attend all technical rehearsals and performances.
Attendance is mandatory.
Being late for a call will lower your final grade by one-half of a letter grade
for each occurrence. Missing a call
completely without prior consent from the Technical Director, Director and Stage
Manager is grounds for failure.
·
Please review the
rehearsal schedule on the last page of this syllabus carefully before you commit
to running a show.
·
Attendance to the
load-ins and strikes for all productions is also required.
The dates are as follows:
SA
2/5

the following criteria:
80%

You are expected to make a positive contribution to the production.
This is done by being on time, concentrating on the work to be done,
doing that work to the best of your ability, and smiling a lot.
Please Note: As you will be working
with tools, ladders and other physically demanding items, it is strongly
recommended that you carry health insurance and keep your card with you at all
