DR. BOB'S SPORADIC ANALYSIS AWARD
An Unofficial, Unrecognized, Unprestigious Award
Granted by Robert "Dr. Bob" Gardner
to ETSU Math Graduate Students Who Complete
Both his Real Analysis and Complex Analysis Sequences

The "Dr. Bob's Sporadic Analysis Award" was started in Spring 2013 to acknowledge those diligent students who stuck through two entire academic years of analysis classes with Robert "Dr. Bob" Gardner. It is hoped that this recognition encourages other students to complete these sequences in a time when the ETSU administration is very conscious of class size.

The first "Dr. Bob's Analysis Award" was granted to Ed Snyder on April 30, 2013. Mr. Snyder completed the 2011-12 Complex Analysis sequence (MATH 5510-5520) and the 2012-13 Real Analysis sequence (MATH 5210-5220).

The certificate for this unprestigious award bears the ETSU logo in the lower left and Dr. Bob's personal logo (the VW Rabbit emblem) in the lower right. It is printed on photo paper and is suitable for framing.

The online syllabi for the classes completed by Mr. Snyder are as follows: Complex Analysis 1, Fall 2011, Complex Analysis 2, Spring 2012, Real Analysis 1, Fall 2012, and Real Analysis 2, Spring 2013.

The second "Dr. Bob's Analysis Awards" were given to several members of the spring 2014 Complex Analysis 2 class. Recipients include: Ivan Ramirez, Pamela Delgado, Benedict Adjogah, and Tony "T-Rod" Rodriguez.

Left to Right: Ivan Ramirez, Pamela Delgado, Benedict Adjogah, Brett Shields, Thomas Robacker, and Tony Rodriguez.
The online syllabi for the classes completed by these honorees are as follows: Real Analysis 1, Fall 2012. Real Analysis 2, Spring 2013. Complex Analysis 1, Fall 2013. Complex Analysis 2, Spring 2014. In place of Real Analysis 1, some of these students took Introduction to Functional Analysis, Summer 2013.

UPDATES! We are proud to announce the new category of "Dr. Bob's Sporadic Analysis Award, Gold Version!" The gold version of the award can be earned by taking both the Real Analysis and Complex Analysis sequences with Dr. Bob, along with the newly created "Introduction to Functional Analysis" (MATH 5740) class which will be offered starting in Summer 2013. Details on this new class can be found here. In the event that a student should ever brave the Dr. Bob analysis waters to the extent of completing the Real and Complex Sequences, Functional Analysis AND write an analysis-based thesis with Dr. Bob, then they would be eligible for the holy grail of unprestigious, unrecognized analysis awards: "Dr. Bob's Sporadic Analysis Award, Platinum Version!" Keep taking those analysis classes, ETSU master's degree candidates!

The third "Dr. Bob's Sporadic Analysis Award" were given to three members of the spring 2019 Real Analysis 2 class. Recipients were: Christine Padden, Nicholas Carney, and Angela Powers (left to right below).

The online syllabi for the classes completed by these honorees are as follows: Complex Analysis 1, Fall 2017. Complex Analysis 2, Spring 2018. Real Analysis 1, Fall 2018. Real Analysis 2, Spring 2019. (In place of Complex Analysis 2, Ms. Powers did thesis work with Dr. Bob on zeros of polynomials of a quaternionic variable, a topic closely related to complex analysis.)
