ENTC 2170—Assignment 1.3:
Auxillary Views & Surface Area

The company marketeers have decided that a gold-plated clamp shown in Assignment 1.2 would be a great seller. In this assignment, provide them with the estimated price to gold plate this part 0.005" thick (that's right, five (5) one thousandths of an inch thick). And, yes, they want the threads plated too. (Don't ask, either why or how... it's a "Rick" thing).

The asking price of gold at the close of business (5 p.m.) on June 8, 2017 was
$1,275.90 per Troy oz.

  1. Based upon the problem above, sketch to scale & appropriately dimension a three view orthographic engineering drawing of the part. To determine the true size of the slope surface, draw an auxillary view of the surface.

  2. Develop a matrix of calculations to show how you came up with your answer.
Hint #1: using a spreadsheet might make the calculations easier.
Hint #2: holes are not cylinders and have negative surface areas.
Hint #3: Googling "Unified National Course thread geometry" can lead one to an interesting angle.
  3. Use letter size paper (8½ x 11). Orient and scale as appropriate.

  4. Place your name in the lower right hand corner of the pages and staple them together.
