Tongue Experiment

One of the important aspects of science is the sharing of data and results.  This process allows the experimenter to be part of a larger community.  This web site is designed to allow you to upload the results of your tongue experiment into a database.  This database provides everyone with the ability to examine a collection of results, thus providing a larger sample size for you to test your hypothesis.

Please follow the following steps:

  1. During the experiment you sampled three substances; A, B, and C.  Since this was a double-blind experiment, neither you nor your TA knew the identity of these substances.  You now need to decode your results by clinking on the tongue below.  (you will need to know the section number of your lab course to obtain the correct identity for the three test substances) Be sure to write down the code.

  2.

  1. Using your decoded data, enter your data in the database by going to the Tongue Database. Be sure to follow the directions.  YOU MUST DECODE YOUR DATA FIRST!

  1. After allowing 1 week for data entry, visit the Analysis page to learn how to use the data to test hypothesis.  Your analysis will be reported to your lab instructor using the Tongue Taste Report form.
