A unique formal classroom experience for high school students, college students, teachers, adults, recreational learners at the ETSU and General Shale Brick Natural History Museum and Visitor Center, Gray, TN



The second (2nd) summer session: July 7 - August 8, 2008



BIOL 2500 Appalachian Biodiversity. 4 credits.

This course includes 4 college credits, on site classroom activities, field experience at the Gray Fossil Site, field experience for 14 days in Costa Rica and museum membership. The Estimated Costs: July 7, 2008 – August 9, 2008 (second summer session) are approximately $4,302 (in state, tuition, fees and estimated costs, including border counties in Virginia and North Carolina) and $5440 (out of state tuition, fees and estimated costs) (see syllabus for details of the course and breakdown of the costs).

This class is available for college students, adult learners, teachers, or the recreational learner who wants an intensive field experience and college credit, or if you are an advanced high school student seeking a dual enrollment course for college credit (seniors in the Fall 2008 that have a 3.2 GPA or 19 on the ACT or SAT equivalent).

BIOL 4957/5957-050 Special Topics: Costa Rican Biodiversity. 1 credit, audit only.

This includes field experience for 14 days in Costa Rica and museum membership. Estmated Costs: July 26 - August 9, 2008, (second summer session) are approximately $3,628 (see syllabus for details of the course and breakdown of the costs).

This class is available for high school students with parental permission, college students, teachers, adults, recreational learners or someone seeking a two week adventure.

BIOL 4957/5957-051 Special Topics: Appalachian Biodiversity for Teachers. 3 Credits.

This includes 3 college credits, on site classroom activities, field experience at the Gray Fossil Site, and museum membership. Estimated Costs: July 7, 2008 – August 1, 2008 (second summer session) are approximately $846 (in state, tuition, fees and estimated costs, including border counties in Virginia and North Carolina) and $1,916 (out of state tuition, fees and estimated costs) (see syllabus for details of the course and breakdown of the costs).

This class is available for professional teachers seeking continuing education credit, and want to explore ways in which informal education may meet the national and state standards in areas of biology and earth science.



1) If you are not a student fill out the visiting student application below and return it with the $15 application fee. You will be informed of your registration status. If you are already an ETSU student just register for the appropriate course on Goldlink and pay your tuition and university fees.
