Classes I teach at ETSU

FALL 2013

Geographic Information Systems - GEOG 3500-001

This class introduces students to the fundamental concepts of GIS through a series of lectures and laboratory exercises. It is designed to teach students how to use GIS software (mainly Esri ArcGIS) to make maps and analyze geospatial data. There are no prerequisites for the class, but it is helpful if the student has already taken a cartography course. After taking this class, students will be prepared to move on to more advanced study of GIS.

Topics in Geospatial Analysis: Applied Geospatial Science - GEOS 5300-001

This class is designed to provide graduate students with a foundation for using geospatial tools and methods (mainly Geographic Information Systems, but also Remote Sensing and Global Positioning Systems) in their research and thesis work. All Geoscience masters students with a geospatial concentration should take this course during their first semester, and students from other departments are welcome to take it at any time. Students that have previously taken GIS classes are encouraged to skip this class and register for more advanced geospatial classes.
