PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

1/1999 -          Assistant Dean, Learning Resources and Director of the Medical Library,
                        James H. Quillen College of Medicine,
                        East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, Tennessee.

8/1994 -           University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN
1998                Associate Professor and Head, Agriculture-Veterinary Medicine Library

                        Responsibilities included:  Overall planning, management and policy  guidance of this branch
                        library, consisting of 2.5 FTE Librarians, 4 FTE support staff and 2.0 FTE student assistants;
                        for the development and  implementation of all related programs and plans; for hiring, training
                        and evaluating personnel; and for contributing to the management of Public Services in particular
                        and the Libraries in general.

                        This branch has more than 150,000 volumes and subscribes to more than    600 journals.
                        This is also a depository library for agricultural documents distributed by the Government Printing Office.

2/1992 -          University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN
7/1994             Assistant Professor and Coordinator, Interlibrary Services(ILS) and Distance Education

                        Duties included:  Plan, direct, coordinate and monitor the operations of the ILS to improve access
                        to collections and materials outside the Libraries; contribute to this mission by managing the ILS unit,
                        including staff supervision; establishment and interpretation of policies and procedures; planning,
                        budget preparation, and cost assessment; and application of information technology to improve
                        interlibrary services; also, participate with Networked Services librarians in the design and implementation
                        of information services that involve networking and resource sharing; continue to participate in reference
                        and database search activities in the Reference Department for a few hours a week.  Responsible for
                        about $150,000 budget a year. During this time we successfully implemented document delivery service
                        using the Ariel software; changed over to OCLC's ILL/Prism service; became member of RLIN
                        Shared Resources Program; and, National Library of Medicine's Docline service.  Distance Education
                        related duties include offering BI classes to off-campus classes; help those students with easier access
                        to library services; provide input to the instructors about available library services.

11/1989 -        University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN
2/1992            Assistant Professor and Life Sciences Reference Librarian

                        Duties included: Provide Library related services such as reference assistance, database searching,
                        bibliographic instruction and collection development for the faculty and students in the  following areas:
                        Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Botany, Zoology, Ecology and Bio-Technology.
                        During this time developed a conspectus for the microbiology collection and participated in a project
                        to cancel $300,000 worth of serials subscriptions due to budgetary shortfalls.  About 25% of all
                        database searches provided in the department were done by me.

4/1984 -           University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN
10/1989           Assistant Professor/Instructor and Microforms/Government Documents
                        Reference Librarian

                        Duties included:  overall management of the Microforms and Government Documents  unit,
                        including budget recommendations; trained and supervised two full-time  staff and 8-10 student
                        library assistants; provided reference service to library users; conducted online database search
                        services using any one of the following  systems: Medline, Dialog, BRS(CDP), STN, RLIN,
                        OCLC, and NEXIS/LEXIS; provided general  and specialized bibliographic instruction;
                        was responsible for collection development in the following subject areas:  library  and information
                        sciences, communications, anthropology and microforms; and, developed a database  for microform
                        series guides, departmental procedural manuals, etc.
