• My professional paper, Matrix Properties of Magic Squares, written for my M.S. in math at Texas Woman's University, 1993. This is a PDF file which has a few problems with it. The original was written using a program called EXP which I no longer have access to. I used a program called EXP viewer to call it up from the old 3.25-inch floppy disks and then print to PDF, but somehow a few of the formatting codes showed up in red and the page numbers on the table of contents are wrong. Trying to remove the red codes and changing page numbers, though, creates all sorts of worse havoc, so just make do with what's there. If you really need a good copy, let me know and I'll get a paper copy for you.

• Online Prealgebra Course from Free-Ed.Net. A kind of interactive text/workbook. Covers much of the same material we taught in our prealgebra classes when we had them. Good for a refresher!
• Mathnotes.com --link to a site with tutorials for slightly different prealgebra, elementary algebra, and intermediate algebra books from the ones we used to use, but by the same authors. You'll need to match book names and chapter titles with the ones in our books.
• Factoring Hints -- Step-by-step help on factoring polynomials. By Margaret Donaldson, former assistant professor of developmental math at ETSU.
• Algebra Tile Basics --A lesson on a pictorial way to understand multiplying binomials.
• "Math for Morons Like Us" -- Despite the title, this is a site developed by high school students to teach each other prealgebra, algebra, and other math topics. This could be helpful for both elementary and intermediate algebra. You may need to browse through both Algebra I and Algebra II to find the topic you need. Also has information helpful for studying prealgebra as well as precalculus and calculus.
• PurpleMath -- Free online algebra resource.  Includes homework guidelines, study skills, and modules for several algebra topics.  Includes explanations and examples. Probably my favorite.
• SOS Math -- another free math resource, written at a slightly higher level.  Covers topics beyond algebra also.
• CoolMath --yet another free math site with a really interesting cursor.

    • NCTM Focal Points for PK-8 -- a list of what content should be the three biggest topics in math classes each year from prekindergarten through grade 8.
  • National Library of Virtual Manipulatives -- Many of the physical manipulatives you might use in the classroom area also available here as applets with explanations and suggested uses as well as teacher-developed lesson plans
  • ShowMe Center -- a resource for Standards-based math curriculum for the middle grades from the University of Missouri..
  • Math Page for Teachers -- Virtual manipulatives, games, strategies, worksheets, etc.
  • Math Open Reference -- Interactive definitions of terms and other reference material. There are little Java applications that let you move points or lines around and see what happens.
  • Shodor -- This site has information on curriculum development, online workshops for faculty, and enrichment activities for students. There are lesson plans, interactive activities, and more.
  • MegaMath -- "The MegaMath project is intended to bring unusual and important mathematical ideas to elementary school classrooms so that young people and their teachers can think about them together." It is hosted by the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico.
  • CoolMath -- Bills itself as " An amusement park of math designed for fun!"
  • Math Expression -- This site contains a number of pages of tutorials along with videos. It covers several topics on arithmetic, basic algebra, and geometry (symmetry, volume, area).
  • Illuminations -- an NCTM site with activities, lessons, virtual manipulatives, etc.
  • PBS Teacher Source for Math
  • Math Tools from Math Forum -- The web site bills it as "A community library of technology tools, lessons, activities, and support materials for teaching and learning mathematics."
  • Math Central -- a Canadian web site (available in English, French, and Spanish) with teaching resources, mathematical glossaries, information about mathematicians and careers in mathematics, and more.
  • MathSphere -- a British site. Look under "Free Resources" for printable math (or "maths" as the Brits call it) games and graph paper, or under "Fun" for electronic math games.
