The Environment as the Third Teacher

This workshop walks you through your environment to learn how to prepare your classroom and materials to support the emerging inquiry of children.  Additionally you will learn how the environment is a form of documentation that makes the thinking and learning of children visible.

 Where Practice Meets Theory

Begins with a discussion of the Guiding Principles of Reggio Inspired Practice.  Reviews an inquiry based investigation —it’s inception; provocations; documentation; choice of young students involved in the investigation; children’s concepts and conflicts, parental involvement, and more—as seen through the documentation. The anecdotal information offered in this presentation will bring the investigation to life while also providing links among the various forms of documentation that are available. This helps to take the mystery out of the process and make it more tangible to participants.

 Weaving Projects

Describes  how an investigation begins and develops as well as the equity / benefit of small group work.  This ties into an illustration of how the ideas (concepts) of a project can expand into the classroom to create new curriculum threads or align with existing curriculum threads outside the framework of the project focus.
