- A model an item (it doesn't have to be a Tennessee or
other state quarter but should be some type of recognizable item or artifact).
- Search the Internet for a suitable item image design,
download and save the image file to a local hard drive.
- Modify (i.e., crop, resize, touch-up) the image format as required; Rhino 3D textures support BMP and JPG file formats.
The image should also be appropriately sized.
- Model the quarter in Rhino as follows:
Diameter = 0.95 inch
Thickness = 0.065 inch
- Apply the image file of the quarter design to the object.
- Render the quarter model to ensure the texture worked correctly.
If necessary, use the "UnpackTextures" command so that the textures are applied to the images correctly.
- An outline of an appropriate shape (e.g., the one associated with the quarter chosen above). The outline could be the entire block as shown above or simply an outline "milled" into a block.
- Search the Internet for a suitable map to bring into AutoCAD or Rhino to "trace".
- Scale the map accordingly.
- If using the state map as the "block," use the Fillet Tool to change ALL INTERNAL radii to have a minimum radius of 1/16 inch.
- Import the 2D vector map into Rhino, extrude it to an appropriate height.
- Find, save, and apply a suitable texture (e.g.,
wood,
brushed aluminum,
pink marble,
green felt,
etc.) to the object. (Instructions for downloading textures and image files.)
- A circular pocket in the deskset in the dimensions of the quarter.
Place the quarter(s) in the pocket.
- Your name, in a suitable typeface, embedded or embossed into the deskset.
- Any other additional features as desired to make the deskset object more interesting and attractive.
- At least one rendered and saved 3D perspective image of the complete model.
