Introduction Through lectures and field trips to three outstanding fossil sites and several botanical/zoological gardens in spring-year-around southwest China, students will gain skills in field paleontology and knowledge of the amazing biodiversity of both ancient and modern lives, such as one of the best soft-bodied fossils from the Cambrian Chengjiang fauna (left image below), Jurassic Lufengosaurus from Lufeng Dinosaur Museum, and Neogene leaves preserved with exquisite venations in Xianfeng Coalmine. The course provides first-hand experience of excavating and collecting a wide range of fossils and enhances cross-cultural exchange during this 3 week program by having graduate students from the Kunming Institute of Botany to join the class for field trips and to visit several botanical/zoological gardens in Kunming, capital of Yunnan.
