Map of Yunnan showing the sites to be visited

Site 1. Jurassic Lufeng Dinosaur Museum in Chuxiong (route A)

Lufengosaurus magnus

Site 2. Early Cambrian Chengjiang Fauna in Yuxi (route B)

reconstruction of the Chengjiang Fauna

The Chengjiang Fauna is:

  • One of the oldest soft-bodies preserved fauna
  • perhaps the best preserved biota
  • one of the most spectacular paleontological discovery
  • the most surprising aspect of the Chengjiang biota is the wealth of taxa from so many different groups: algae, metazoans, sponges, sea anemones, worms, brachiopods, annelid-like animals, trilobites and probable earliest chordates
  • The meaning of the Chengjiang fossils: early appearance in the fossil record
(i.e. the dramatic Cambrian Explosion), fine preservation for amazing morphology of these early creatures

Site 3. Kunming:

We are going to visit a number of Neogene sites (beautifully preserved plant fossils), botanical garden, zoological museum, and Kunming world horticulture expo.
