Development Opportunities for Mathematics and Science Educators
East Tennessee State University’s Center of Excellence in Mathematics and Science
Education is a premier provider of professional development for math
and science teachers in the region’s schools. The Center offers a
variety of on-site, tailored professional development
workshops as well as state and regional conferences, all
of which are recognized as the highest quality, most comprehensive
PD opportunities available to math and science educators.
Current Funded Projects:
Director of numerous projects, totaling approximately 10 million
dollars for the improvement of K-12 science in the region’s schools.

PCMI: Professional Community of Modeling Instruction
(physics/chemistry);
Funded by Tennessee Higher Education Commission. The goal of this
project was to train chemistry and physics teachers in modeling
instruction.

Northeast STEM Academy and ETSU TSIN STEM Innovation Hub;
Funded by Battelle Memorial Institute. The primary goal of this
project was to develop a STEM high school and STEM Innovation Hub.

Eastman Scholars Mathletes Project.
Funded by Eastman Chemical Company. This project is providing
professional development for math teachers (grades 4-8) in seven
school districts: Bristol City, Hawkins, Johnson City, Kingsport,
Sullivan, Washington counties Scott County,
VA
