Workshops

I am available to bring these workshops to your school environment. Please email me or call to discuss dates and rates. I am interested in discussing financial arrangements that will suit your school’s capabilities and needs. Please note that it is also possible to bring together staff from more than one school community to participate in an innovativECE workshop.

I. Where Practice Meets Theory

9am - 4pm
The workshop includes:

1. A review of the Guiding Principles of Reggio Inspired Practice.

2. Viewing of video documentation for the uncovering of concepts in children’s play and the planning of next steps in curriculum.

3. A look at the role of the environment (the environment is the child’s 3rd teacher) based on slides and/or a walk through your environment.

4. The review of a project—it’s inception; provocations; documentation; choice of young students involved in the project; children’s concepts and conflicts, parental involvement, and more—as seen through the documentation. The anecdotal information that I offer in this presentation will bring the project to life while also filling in the links among the various forms of documentation that are available. This helps to take the mystery out of the process and make it more tangible to participants.

II. Documentation for Learning

9am - 4pm
The workshop includes:
1. Co-constructing the principles of documentation
Based on the principles derived from Reggio Inspired Practice and a review of documentation panels that I bring to your location.

2. Viewing of video tape of children at play

3. Creation of documentation panels based on the video just viewed with materials provided by the Facilitator. These materials will include stills and transcripts from the video previously viewed. Groups will work together as teams.
Video is available for further viewing in process.

4. Discussion of panels.

III. Weaving Projects

9am - 4pm
morning
This workshop begins with a look at a project implemented at the ECLS to highlight
1. how a project begins
2. how a project develops
3. the equity / benefit of small group work
4. how the ideas (concepts) of a project can expand into the classroom to create new curriculum threads or align with existing curriculum threads outside the framework of the project focus.

afternoon
In the afternoon the focus turns to documentation from your school and:
1. mapping of the existing curriculum takes place
2. conceptual threads of documentation are analyzed
3. brainstorming about possible directions for these conceptual threads occurs
4. planning woven curriculum strategies for your school concludes the day
