WATCH ME FOR RATINGS!

FIND MACINTOSH COMPATIBLE BROWSERS BELOW
Internet Explorer · Netscape Communicator · Cyberdog · iCab · MacLynx · Wanna-Be · Blake · Mozilla

Some Mac browsers have been discontinued (eg. NCSA Mozaic); others are experimental (eg. iCab); still others are text-only browsers (eg. MacLynx)!  Netscape appears to be making their cross-platform browser fully Mac-compatible.  We have not included "offline" browsers like SiteEater!  Opera promises to have a Mac-compatible version soon!  Looking for PC-compatible browsers -> CLICK HERE!

There are dozens of Mac-browsers available: we are trying to concentrate only on those considered "mainstream."  (Not sure of your browser version?  Click on "help," and then "about" from the pull down menu!)

1) Click on the icon below to update your Internet Explorer Browser to Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0.  This version of Internet Explorer makes available 128-bit encryption... so your browser will have greater security when transferring information such as credit card numbers.  This version is compatible with dynamic HTML, cascading style sheets and cookies!  The Bull says one horn down on IE because IE 5.5 is not Mac-compatible!

Internet Explorer 5.0      (15.9 Mb)

2)  You may want to use Netscape ® Communicator 6 to surf the net.  Be sure to download the Full Version of Netscape 6  (November 14, 2000) so that you will get the Netscape Java engine (without it, your browser will not be able to read Java)!  Want a lean, powerful browser... Netscape's 6 is a giant leap forward (now available with themes that allow you to customize and even distribute your browser theme)!  If you are a former AOL browser user, this is now the official browser of AOL (AOL and Netscape are now one and the same).  The Bull gives it 2 horns up and thanks Netscape for reducing the size of the browser!"

GET NETSCAPE 6!    TWO HORNS UP!!!   (Netscape 6 for Windows, Mac & Linux 7.5 Mb)

We strongly recommend that you download the full version of NETSCAPE COMMUNICATOR 6.  Click on the Netscape Logo above to use Netscape's SmartDownload.

3)  Click on the icon below to get CYBERDOG 2.0.  When you get to the Cyberdog site, click on "DogBones" and then click on "Apple Downloads."  Biggest  advantage, small size!  Start from the ground up, switching on only the features you want to use!  The Bull asks, "Any chance of updating this good looking, powerful little multipurpose browser released in March of '97?"  So it's one horn down for the savvy Cyberdog!

GET CYBERDOG!   ONE HORN UP FOR CYBERDOG!   (2.6 Mb)

4)   Click on the icon below to get MacLynx 2.7.  Biggest advantage... really small size.  Biggest disadvantage... many of the download sites appear to be offline and the browser does not appear to have been updated in a long time!  MacLynx was originally designed as a text-only browser!

GET MACLYNX!   ONE HORN UP!!!   (1.1 Mb)

Many of the download sites for MacLynx are now offline.  The AusMac download site at University of New South Wales in Australia still works.  The Bull gives this great little text browser one horn up, although it probably does not have long to live! (no updates since July '97 - hey, did somebody switch off the lights down there?)

5)  Click on the link below to get "The Wanna-Be Web Browser 1.0a44 text-only browser" (you can also download the experimental version 1.0a46 of this "browser in development"l).  While the browser home page looks awfully simple, the support links and sites look great!  Will this be the text browser to bump MacLynx?  The Bull thinks it will, and gives it one horn up; but hey guys, get a logo!

The Wanna-Be Browser    ONE HORN UP!!!   (0.5 Mb)

6)  Click on the icon below to get "BLAKE TR2" (technology release - shareware = not free).  The Blake TR2 browser was intended to be a slightly upscale version of Cyberdog, with a bit more JAVA and HTML compatibility!  However, there does not appear to have been a new release in a long while.  The Bull needs more info about the future of this old browser (if it has any future), so it's one horn down!

   ONE HORN UP!!!   (0.2 Mb)

7)  Click on the icon below to get "MOZILLA."  Mozilla is the ultimate "growth" browser because there is a developer's version of the browser available that lets developers submit changes and a "talkback" version that lets users submit "bugs."  The theory is that Mozilla may become the ultimate cross-platform browsers (for Windows, Mac, Linux and other operating systems).  You can download 2 different "types" of Mozilla browser versions... "milestones," which are rigorously tested versions released every 2 to 3 months, and more frequently released versions, called "nightlies," or "snapshots."  To quote Mozilla, "nightly builds will probably work, but maybe not."  Feel like taking a browse on the edge?  Mozilla is definitely for you!  The current Mozilla milestone is #18 (Oct 12, 2000).  This browser is an intermediate size and provides endless possibilities for users... you could be the next great Mozilla developer.  Working as hard as Mozilla is to become "the people's browser," the Bull had to upgrade Mozilla to two horns up!

GET MOZILLA!   ONE HORN UP!!!   (Windows, Mac & Linux versions approximately 10 Mb)

8)   Click on the icon below to get iCAB 2.2 (experimental).  Biggest advantage, really small size... and while many people complain that the final version has been a long time coming, many people appear to be using iCab anyway and there are many support sites!  The iCAB home page disappeared around Oct 23rd, 2000; two links are provided below at which it may be temporarily possible to download the iCAB browser.

GET iCAB!   (1.2 Mb) LOOKS LIKE IT'S GONE!
